The 5th cohort of DDB trainees start in Fall 2025

UCSB assistant professor of Bioengineering will study extracellular vesicles that support tissue repair.

UC Santa Barbara researchers and collaborators from campus biotech spinoff Integrated Biosciences, as well as Harvard, MIT, Princeton and genomics company Illumina Ventures are using optogenetics — the use of light to probe the functions of living tissue — to find compounds to help our bodies more effectively help themselves in times of physiological stress.

UC Santa Barbara’s second annual Data Driven Biology Symposium spotlighted groundbreaking student research at the intersection of biology, engineering, and data science. Supported by the NSF’s NRT program, the event showcased how interdisciplinary training is empowering the next generation of scientists to tackle complex challenges in quantitative biology.

The Second Annual DDB Research Symposium will be held on July 30, 2025 from 9-4pm.
